Art Studio for the disabled
Quantoon Studio needs help.
Rosalie Vivienne Firth Cox also known as Mrs Skribble devotes her time, effort and money to the 400 or so people who come to her studio. Quantoon Studios converted from an old school house in the middle of the Quantock Hills is a refuge for children and adults with a range of disabilities and mental health challenges for whom art is a form of theraputic expression. Sadly the longevity of the studio is being called into question as there is no funding available to help.
Mrs Skribble became well-known as a lightning cartoonist, known as the fastest draw in the west, she would often draw fun characters from a simple squiggle on a page. Trained at the Royal Academy of Art, she starting at a puppet theatre, working with PDSA and the RSPCA and in television - Mrs Skribble had many talents!

Reframing Perspectives on Disability
Victories and setbacks on the road to a more accessible and inclusive society.
As we explore the region's archival footage on disability, it's important to acknowledge that disabled people still face challenges today. By examining how the South West has adapted over time, we can reframe our perspectives and work towards a more inclusive future. From the establishment of disabled sport teams to discussing hidden and visible disabilities on regional TV, the region has made strides towards creating a more accessible and inclusive society. These archival videos can open our eyes to the experiences and perspectives of disabled people in the 1980s and 90s. There's still much work to be done, but by looking back at our history, we can learn from our successes and failures and strive towards a more equitable future.
