Heart and lung transplant complicated by cystic fibrosis.
21-year-old Andrew has returned to his family home in Torbay after spending five months in hospital following a heart and lung transplant. Andrew suffers from cystic fibrosis, an inherited disorder that causes severe damage to the lungs, digestive system and other organs in the body. These complications extended his stay in hospital, leaving him with atrophied leg muscles. Although unsteady on his feet, he is happy to be home.

By examining how the South West has adapted over time, we can reframe our perspectives and work towards a more inclusive future. From the establishment of disabled sport teams to discussing hidden and visible disabilities on regional TV, the region has made strides towards creating a more accessible and inclusive society. These archival videos can open our eyes to the experiences and perspectives of disabled people in the 1980s and 90s. There's still much work to be done, but by looking back at our history, we can learn from our successes and failures and strive towards a more equitable future.
