A non-profit farming community aimed at those with disabilities.

Stallcombe House is a community home located in the heart of the Devon countryside, providing a safe workplace and home for those with a wide range of disabilities, both learning and physical. It is a non-profit project funded by the local health authority and social services where individuals are encouraged to work at their own pace, promoting independence through education, appropriate employment and recreation.

18 residents, most of whom have spent a long time in hospitals, are joined each day by six others who live nearby. 18 staff are on hand to assist. The farm itself is totally free range and organic, with three of the 55 acres devoted to organic fruits and vegetables which are sold in the farm shop. A few of the residents express their happiness for the project, growing in skills and confidence, and helping them to pursue their passions.

Reframing Perspectives on Disability

Victories and setbacks on the road to a more accessible and inclusive society.
As we explore the region's archival footage on disability, it's important to acknowledge that disabled people still face challenges today. By examining how the South West has adapted over time, we can reframe our perspectives and work towards a more inclusive future. From the establishment of disabled sport teams to discussing hidden and visible disabilities on regional TV, the region has made strides towards creating a more accessible and inclusive society. These archival videos can open our eyes to the experiences and perspectives of disabled people in the 1980s and 90s. There's still much work to be done, but by looking back at our history, we can learn from our successes and failures and strive towards a more equitable future.
