A look at how the Yorkshire coastline, and how we use it, has changed over the past 100 years.
A look at how our coastline and how we use it have changed over the past 100 years. The programme looks at the fishing community in Flamborough through the eyes of a father and son, who recall climbing to cliffs to gather guillemots' eggs, crab fishing and working on the village's lifeboat. Also included is stunning footage from the 1950s and '60s of the bustling commercial port of Hull. Part two of the programme looks at a typical pre-war beach holiday in Filey and takes to the North Sea with some of the first underwater photography from the York Scuba Diving Club taken in York and Thornwick Bay in the 1950s. Also included is the sport of sand racing - with both cars and motorbikes, including the marathon twenty-mile Yorkshire Championships of the 1950s.
