Trojan Car Advert
- York
- 1926
This intriguingly basic Butlins ad is all talk.
This Butlins commercial is all talk: words on the soundtrack and the screen but no pictorial content whatsoever. Sometimes, the basics are all you need.
Scrolling words on screen - 'Holiday on the continent with Butlin's, the name
you can depend on. Over 100 selected holidays to choose from. 15 Days. Prices
from £25 to £75 including travel, excellent hotels, food & service. Butlin's:
Europe's greatest holiday experts.'
Throughout the 20th century, screen advertising helped transform the car from luxury conveyance for the wealthy to essential commodity, 'hand-built by robots'. It saw out the last days of steam, and made 'the age of the train'. And it presented travel - at home or abroad - as a route to a better life.
