Trojan Car Advert
- York
- 1926
Stylish petrol advert featuring Graham Hill.
Racing legend Graham Hill, astride a pair of Triumph Heralds, stars in this stylish and atmospheric Shell advert. The fine cinematography was clearly executed at no small expense, with a profusion of tracking and helicopter shots gracing the film's mere 30 seconds' screen time.
Throughout the 20th century, screen advertising helped transform the car from luxury conveyance for the wealthy to essential commodity, 'hand-built by robots'. It saw out the last days of steam, and made 'the age of the train'. And it presented travel - at home or abroad - as a route to a better life.
