In the run-up to the establishment of the European Single Market, Anne speaks to a panel of professionals on what the changes will mean for businesses and consumers in Northern Ireland. Guests speak about freedom of movement and goods across the Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland border, as well as what the change will mean for food prices and job opportunities.
On 1st January 1993 the European Single Market was launched allowing EU member states 'the Four Freedoms'; the free movement of people, goods, services and money. On 31st January 2020 the UK left the European Union and Common Market, however the Northern Ireland Protocol allowed Northern Ireland to remain the Single Market for goods.
