Criss cross Quiz [22/09/67] (Criss cross Quiz)
General knowledge + noughts and crosses = cash prize!
The Criss Cross Quiz is an early example of a television quiz show on ITV and began in 1957. This episode is the last in the series of 1967, the final year the programme was broadcast. The premise is very straight-forward; contestants play a game of noughts and crosses by answering questions correctly. Each square has an assigned general knowledge subject category which changes every round. Current champion Mr Douglas starts with an impressive £140 rolled over from the previous programme. A series of challengers attempt to win against Mr Douglas.
The show is hosted by enthusiastic host Barbara Kelly who attempts to coax the rather reserved and quiet players into conversation with her. The studio audience is also subdued, applauding in all the right places. This is a decidedly low-tech quiz show with Barbara referring to questions written on index cards and contestants asked to refer to envelopes on their desks for picture questions.
See if you can answer any of the questions that were considered general knowledge at the time.
