Profile of the up-and-coming boxer.

Ahead of Barry McGuigan's fight against Colombian Filipe Orozco a camera crew for Good Evening Ulster follow McGuigan in training and speak to him about the challenge of fighting against a southpaw.

The report also shows McGuigan helping out with serving tea at the B&B guest house that he uses when preparing before fights. The owner of the B&B and his wife Sandra both speak about his 'grumpiness' before fights. With McGuigan soon to become a world superstar of boxing, this is a charming snapshot of him on the way up the ladder. The reporter is Eamonn Holmes.

Good Evening Ulster was the weekday tea-time local news round-up for Ulster Television throughout much of the 1980s and helped to launch the careers of household names such as Gloria Hunniford and Eamonn Holmes.

Sporting Action

The camera dramatically changed the ways we interact with sport.
Watching sports on the screen allows us access that would be impossible for the ordinary spectator, whether it’s running with footballers, floating above the clouds with skydivers or drifting so close to surfers we're getting splashed. Sports broadcasting brought these elite athletes into our homes. On-pitch dramas and post-match interviews transformed athletes from sporting heroes into celebrities, flogging everything from training tips to new fashions to crisps. Nowadays there are screens in every stadium – enhancing the in-person experience and assisting the umpire. Wherever you are, you are in the best seat, enjoying extraordinary access to the energy, excitement and agility of sporting action.
