Hollywood-themed edition of the books series, also featuring Ed McBain and tales of Cary Grant.

Anne Robinson introduces us to highlights of the programme ahead and reporter Richard Barber visits New York to speak to Evan Hunter, who wrote the 87th Precinct novels under his pen name of Ed McBain. He discusses reaction to controversial developments with one of his characters, Detecive Corella. He also shares his thoughts on Hollywood and his early career when he went there to write the screenplay of The Birds for Alfred Hitchcock.

Anne then presents the UK Top Ten Non-Fiction Hardback Chart. Richard visits the Park Avenue residence of Douglas Fairbanks Jr in New York to discuss his recent memoir, Salad Days.

Anne interviews Maureen Donaldson, who talks about her memoir An Affair to Remember, which details how she, as a 27-year-old, embarked upon a four-year affair with the almost 70-year-old screen legend Cary Grant. She recounts how she was working for The Beatles and was brought to America to work as the nanny for their press manager. She was then working as a journalist when a chance encounter with Grant in a café changed her life. She outlines her troubled relationship with the actor and how his unhappy childhood affected his dealings with others throughout his life.

Actress Penelope Keith is the week's celebrity reviewer and she looks at several new books on gardening. Anne closes the programme by talking us through the UK Top Ten Paperback Fiction Chart.

The Write Stuff was a weekly round-up of the world of books, authors and publishing and was a contribution from Ulster Television to the ITV network's daytime schedules. Each week, presenter Anne Robinson and reporter Richard Barber interviewed prominent authors, sought out celebrities for the latest books they'd read and ran through the weekly book charts.
