Authors Michael Stewart and Leslie Thomas also feature in the weekly book series.

Presenter Henry Kelly talks to thriller writer Michael Stewart about his breakthrough novel, Monkey Shines. He discusses how he has started to bring scientific theory into his works and talks about the two new books he is about to release.

Henry then reports from the New York apartment of crime writer, Mary Higgins Clark. She recounts taking up writing after the death of her husband while raising her children. They also discuss snobbish attitudes towards crime writing before Henry runs through the Top Ten US Fiction Chart.

Back in London Henry visits the home of author Leslie Thomas. He talks about his first big success with The Virgin Soldiers and his current plans. Reporter Jill Cochrane interviews the playwright Willy Russell as he discusses what drew him to writing in the first place and how he made the leap from attempting novels to trying his hand at writing plays. They also talk about his current plays in the West End, including Shirley Valentine, and his methods of working.

Actress Susannah York is this week's celebrity reader as she tells Henry about her book tastes and her love of Alice in Wonderland. Henry closes the programme with a look at the UK Top Ten Paperback Fiction Chart.

The Write Stuff was a weekly round-up of the world of books, authors and publishing and was a contribution from Ulster Television to the ITV network's daytime schedules. Each week, presenter Henry Kelly and reporter Jill Cochrane interviewed prominent authors, sought out celebrities for the latest books they'd read and ran through the weekly book charts.
