The weekly books series also meets Irish-Italian novelist Mary Gordon.

Presenter Henry Kelly talks to former television news journalist Gerald Seymour about what his breakthrough novel was. Gerald is in no doubt that it was the first, Harry's Game. He reveals how his success with novel writing impacted upon his career in journalism and led to him giving up the latter. Gerald shares the background to his latest novel, At Close Quarters, and confesses his poor abilities as a typist.

Henry interviews Irish-Italian American author Mary Gordon about the feminism in her work and the Irish-themed book she is currently writing. Henry then presents the Top Ten US Fiction Chart.

Henry visits the headquarters of Collins in London to meet with John Trenhaile and asks him about his boast that he would end up as one of the two bestselling authors in the world. Trenhaile discusses the philosophy behind such thinking and the risk of auctioning the rights to one of his books.

Reporter Jill Cochrane invites Neil Tennant of The Pet Shop Boys to discuss his reading habits as this week's celebrity. Evelyn Waugh and TS Eliot feature prominently, as well as the Mapp and Lucia novels by EF Benson. Henry closes out the programme with a run through the UK Top Ten Paperback Fiction Chart.

The Write Stuff was a weekly round-up of the world of books, authors and publishing and was a contribution from Ulster Television to the ITV network's daytime schedules. Each week, presenter Henry Kelly and reporter Jill Cochrane interviewed prominent authors, sought out celebrities for the latest books they'd read and ran through the weekly book charts.
