Egg Marketing Board: Sheila No. 1
Groundbreaking, enchanting ad directed by theatre legend Joan Littlewood.
A sensational, heart-warming story of a woman's devoted love for her family in the tough world of London's East End'? Or an advert for eggs? Both! The billing comes from a promotional ad in the advertising trade which also reveals the stellar pedigree of its creators.
The ad series was directed by Joan Littlewood a year after her musical Oh, What a Lovely War! was first staged. It was produced by Anthony Shaffer who was still working in ad copywriting but would go on to write the play Sleuth and script the film The Wicker Man (1973); Nicolas Roeg was one of the cameramen.
