Working for a brighter future, giving Rochdale children a good start in life.
The Sure Start programme began in 1998 with the aim of helping parents and young children living in disadvantaged areas. This film visits the Rochdale Sure Start centre in 2004 where there are a variety of activities on offer - creche facilities, play activities for toddlers to promote learning and development of language and social skills, cookery classes, and communal musical sessions for children and their parents. There are opportunities for the adults to share their experiences on issues such as dealing with behavioural problems or to give feedback on what they have learned. There is also a quiet space for them to read and relax while their children play happily elsewhere in the Centre.
