Cornwall's tourism needs to be priority.

The 1980s have seen Cornwall's tourism boom dwindle. For example 1987 saw a 10% drop in visitor numbers from the previous year. With the costs of overseas holidays dropping, many are travelling further afield for their annual holiday.

Cornwall in the 1950s and 60s saw a steady stream of tourism to the area without the need for much self promotion. Local councils didn't have to expend much effort to promote their local attractions. In a survey conducted by Exeter University, 15,000 families were asked about what they liked and disliked most about Cornwall.

The number one complaint was that costs were too high, followed by a lack of car parks, polluted beaches, dirty toilets and sub-standard roads. Tourism has overtaken mining, farming and fishing as the county's single biggest industry, which means many people are reliant on the tourism industry, so these complaints need to be addressed and quickly.
