Coal, steel, mineral and rail: an East Midlands partnership as old as the railways themselves.
Coal, steel, minerals, Red Star Parcels - and don't forget passengers too! This British Rail promotional video sets out how BR's Nottingham Division works hard to cater for all in the Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire triangle. There's a sorry tale of present day need, but the division, we hear, has made significant improvement, and by 1989 much will be achieved. Out go the old semaphores and a complete rolling stock replacement programme is on the cards.
The greater ambition of the electrification of the Midland mainline and the advanced passenger train serving the Midlands didn't quite come off in the 80s, but much of the ambition in this corporate programme came to fruition just as predicted.
Film about the work of British Rails Nottingham Division from rail freight, parcel delivery and power station merry-go-round wagons to InterCity passenger services in the Midlands region. Also includes future plans to improve rail services, track and stations.
