Cueing up for a world record?
A Kate Smith report for Good Evening Ulster on two young men embarking upon an unusual endurance test. Paul Hill and James Clydesdale have decided that they will play snooker non-stop for an incredible eight-day stint. Only a five-minute break will be allowed each hour and they hope to break the world record of a 187-hour game. The organiser - who isn't taking part himself - tells Kate why the snooker club decided to host the event, which is for charity.
Pity poor James Clydesdale, however, who had just turned up at the club and, when someone else dropped out of the epic task, found himself roped in on the spot to more than a week of doing nothing but playing snooker. History doesn't record if they succeeded.
Good Evening Ulster was the weekday tea-time local news round-up for Ulster Television throughout much of the 1980s and helped to launch the careers of household names such as Gloria Hunniford and Eamonn Holmes.
