Laughter is the Best Medicine
(The Family Show)
Are you getting your RDA of laughter?
The old expression 'laughter is the best medicine' has some truth to it. Now, a study found at the University of Baltimore in the USA has found that laughter improves health. Stephen Nolan goes on a rib-tickling mission for The Family Show to investigate the claim. He interviews members of the Belfast public, including PUP MLA Billy Hutchinson. But are the jokes toe curling or genuinely funny? You decide!
The Family Show (previously named Family Life) was a weekly magazine style series presenting reports and in-studio features on family matters, from young children, education, mothers, fathers and issues for the elderly, as well as items on cooking, shopping and leisure.
The extraordinary, the absurd and the downright weird combine in this collection of reports from UTV’s nightly Good Evening Ulster news programme.
Despite the often bleak aspect of local news in Northern Ireland during the decades relating to The Troubles, ordinary - and sometimes extraordinary - life continued on. This series of some of the more off-the-wall reports from the UTV news archives shows the citizens of Northern Ireland engaging in unusual schemes, fundraisers, pastimes and humorous events.
From Earl Bird attempting to set a new world record for non-stop yodelling to a nuclear bunker disco, from a pub with no beer to a canine snooker referee, you’ll find this collection full to the brim with the odd, the eccentric and the full-on weird.
