Hula Hoop Champion (Good Evening Ulster)
Running rings round the opposition.
A report for Good Evening Ulster on a travelling hula hoop demonstration which has come to Maysfield Leisure Centre in Belfast. With the pastime of hula-hooping undergoing something of a revival, hula-hooping world champion Chico Johnson travelled from the US (sponsored by a brand of crisps with an appropriate name) to demonstrate his skills and encouraging children to take up the hoop. Chico is interviewed and reveals that his world record of most hoops at one time was 81, before putting on a dancing display for the cameras.
Good Evening Ulster was the weekday tea-time local news round-up for Ulster Television throughout much of the 1980s and helped to launch the careers of household names such as Gloria Hunniford and Eamonn Holmes.
