Good clean fun? The surprising sport of cowpat throwing.
This report for UTV's Good Evening Ulster shines a spotlight on the niche sport of cowpat throwing taking place in Belfast's Botanic Gardens. The demonstrator of this unusual pastime is English Country and Western singer Hank Wangford who claims to have picked it up in Oklahoma.
Hank shows the reporter some cow pats which he says are sadly unsuitable for throwing, but reveals that he has provided some synthetic cow pats which will do the job just fine. With a mighty roar, Hank then demonstrates his throwing skills and his effort is measured in distance.
Other celebrities try their hand, with local DJ Linda Jayne, English impressionist Johnny More, and Irish comedian Jimmy Cricket all stepping up to the challenge. They are all present to use the strange proceedings as publicity for the Belfast Festival at Queen's.
Good Evening Ulster was the weekday tea-time local news round-up for Ulster Television throughout much of the 1980s and helped to launch the careers of household names such as Gloria Hunniford and Eamonn Holmes.
