From Malham to the sea, the story of a Yorkshire river and the people who live and work on it.
Many films from the Yorkshire Media Consortium collection like this one can be described as telling the stories of the natural histories of the region - the lives and livelihoods of the Yorkshire landscape. And when thinking of nature, we tend to see our world divided into city and country, but the River Aire is a vital artery that runs through the rural and urban landscape, connecting those environments. The Aire flows through national parks and the centre of Leeds. It's an income, a resource, a home for a variety of people, and a threat when the flood waters come. This documentary explores what it's like for those who live and work on the boats and barges and those connected with the river and its canals.
This is a documentary about boats and barges on the River Aire, and those who use them. The film was made by Vera Media Production as part of the Yorkshire Media Consortium project. The documentary features interviews with many people connected with the river and its canals, from its source to Goole and on to the North Sea.
