Will the fashion industry ever cater for the larger woman? Plus-size model Ann Harpur and modelling competition winner Yvonne Aston hope so.
Models don't have to be thin. Yvonne Aston from Hemingford Grey, Cambridgeshire has won the Supersize Model Contest, organised to find a find a plus-size model for the Frock Exchange of Fenstanton, Cambridgeshire. Yvonne was coached by Ann Harpur, one of America's leading plus-size models and fashion editor of the Cachet Magazine. Yvonne will be featured in the magazine later in the year.
Both Ann and Yvonne feel that larger women have been ignored by the fashion industry, being forced to wear dark colours. Yvonne points out that in the past it has been difficult for her to find clothes that fit. Ann advises that as long as the fit is right, larger size women should have the confidence to wear different colours. Feeling good about themselves will help women project a positive self-image.
Reporter Greg Barnes interviewed Yvonne Aston and Ann Harpur for this video, made to be shown in a news story on Anglia Television early evening news / magazine programme About Anglia.
Video made to be inserted during live broadcast of Anglia Television's early evening news / magazine programme About Anglia. The live studio presentation provided context for the video as part of a news story or magazine feature within the programme. About Anglia was not recorded during broadcast, so it is usually just the pre-recorded programme inserts which survive. In the 1980s Anglia Television was broadcasting to a wide area in the East of England including Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk, Northamptonshire, Suffolk and adjoining parts of Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Rutland where there was some overlap with neighbouring ITV regions.
