Against all the odds, a miner emerges alive after being trapped in his pre-Victorian flooded mine for almost two weeks.
Pupils of Ysgol Bryn Tabor, Coedpoeth, animate the story of the miraculous escape of John Evans, a miner at Coedpoeth coalmine who managed to survive a catastrophic underground flood in 1819 which killed his fellow miners. He was saved by an air pocket, drinking dripping water and, by all accounts, eating candles. A coffin made in anticipation of the discovery of his body, was kept by the fortunate Evans until is was actually needed. This animation was made for the National Museum Wales exhibition 'Pwy Ydym Ni/What Makes Wales' in 2000-2001.
