Derfel was said to be one of King Arthur's knights and bishop of Bardsey, and able to enter Hell to retrieve the lost souls...
Pupils of Ysgol Ffridd y Llyn, Cefnddwysarn animate the story of Derfel Gadarn, or Derfel Sant (Saint Derfel), a 6th-century Celtic Christian monk who was held to be a saint. There is a shrine to him at Llandderfel church in Meirionethshire where, legend has it, people used to flock to see they eyes of his wooden statue, which allegedly moved like real eyes. This animation was made for the National Museum Wales exhibition 'Pwy Ydym Ni/What Makes Wales' in 2000-2001.
