So much more than just a commuter service, the Metro is the life blood of a vibrant metropolis.
The Tyne and Wear Metro was the first modern light rail system in Great Britain, and is the third most used light rail network in the UK. Nearly 40 million passenger journeys are made every year on the Metro across 60 stations, with the oldest station dating back to 1839. The initial Metro network opened in 1980, mostly utilising old rail lines linked with new infrastructure.
An extended television advertisement made to highlight the £100 million investment to extend the Tyne & Wear Metro system from Newcastle to Sunderland and what benefits this will bring to people both for work, education, and recreational activities seven days a week.
