An examination of the history of trades union legislation from the repeal of the Combination Acts in 1824 to the 1982 Employment Act, including interviews with George Arnold (Amalgamated Union of Engineering Worker), Lord Wedderburn (Labour Lawyer), Albert Booth (Minister for Employment 1974-79) and Bernie Steer (Transport and General Workers' Union), dramatised scenes from the past and extracts from a day school for shop stewards organised by North Tyneside branch of N.U.P.E. on 9 November 1982.
