An 80s gold-rush as bullion bars with a difference roll off the production lines of a Worcestershire firm.
Founded in 1898 and made in the 'Sweetheart of England', Blue Bird Toffee of Hunnington in Worcestershire was a long lasting and successful business, until the brand disappeared in a round of corporate take-overs in the 1990s.
In happier times, back in 1983, John Swallow reported on the phenomenal success the firm was having with their Gold Bullion bars. These 10p blocks of toffee were proving so popular among the sweet-toothed children of Britain that production had been stepped up to include a nightshift. As we find out, they can even be eaten with false teeth.
A boom in sales for the Blue Bird toffee factory in Worcestershire.
