Discover the fascinating true story behind Philip Wayre's Otter Trust which helped save British otters from extinction in the wild.
In the 1960s Philip Wayre was the only person in Britain breeding otters and releasing them into the wild. He even resorted to buying back otters from coypu trappers. At one point coypu trappers were setting 3,000 traps a night in Norfolk, and many of them caught otters by mistake. Coypu were eradicated in the wild in Britain, but otters are beginning to return.
An edition of the Tyne Tees Television wildlife programme Wild North, presented by Jonathan Morrell.
