Report on progress to computerise the monitoring of Anglian Water's systems and improve flood alerts across the region.
Anglian Water is rolling out the installation of 500 computers at its sites across Norfolk and Suffolk including sewage works, reservoirs, water towers and flood warning stations. Pins are added to a vast map of the region on an office wall. At the Thorpe Bore Hole near Norwich, a computer records operations at the water treatment plant, and this is monitored at the Norwich incident room.
John Simpson of Anglian Water explains the benefits of computerised flood warnings compared with previous reliance on individuals sending telephone messages - more time to anticipate and prepare.

video made to be inserted during live broadcast of Anglia Television's early evening news / magazine programme About Anglia. The live studio presentation provided context for the video as part of a news story or magazine feature within the programme. About Anglia was not recorded during broadcast, so it is usually just the pre-recorded programme inserts which survive. In the 1980s Anglia Television was broadcasting to a wide area in the East of England including Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk, Northamptonshire, Suffolk and adjoining parts of Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Rutland where there was some overlap with neighbouring ITV regions.
