A series of interviews with prominent figures from the Yorkshire region.
Richard Whiteley interviews Edna Healey and Colleen Rees, wives of Leeds MPs Denis Healey and Merlyn Rees, about their roles, what life is really like at Downing Street, and how they both love to return to Leeds. The women explain the difficulties of being married to Cabinet Ministers who often work 17 hours a day, and advise a wife should have her own interests so she has her own resources and doesn’t feel hurt or neglected. However, the role does have its advantages, giving the women a "passport to people" ranging from the Duke of Edinburgh to workers of a shipbuilding firm, and providing them with the privilege and pleasure to be welcomed into people’s lives. Edna Healey later went onto become an author. Though she began her writing career relatively late in life, her books were critically acclaimed and sometimes best-sellers. She wrote non-fiction books, often biographies of successful women in powerful positions.
