Visit the area of Donaghmore in County Tyrone and explore the history and people.
Joe visits the village of Donaghmore in County Tyrone and explains its history, including the founding of its church by Saint Patrick. He meets Pat O'Neill who shows him the thousand year old sandstone High Cross and explains the erosion it is suffering from. They visit a replica which has been commissioned to show people how it would have looked when first carved.
He speaks to Ciaran and Vicki McCausland, who own a local pub, and learns of their attempts to resurrect Donaghmore Ale. Local historian Patricia Bogue tells Joe of the old Brown's Soap factory. In 1908 a replica of Doaghmore was built in London and named Ballymaclinton as a six month promotional tool fror the soap manufacturer with hundreds of local young women travelling over to work in it. Joe also visits the local Bardic Theatre to learn of its history and its engagement with the community from Sean Faloon and Kathryn O'Neill.

With gentle panoramas of beautiful Irish countryside, played out under a lilting soundtrack, the series was a staple of the Ulster Television schedules for nearly 20 years.
This selection of programmes from the series serves as a testimony to the rural culture of Ulster and a resource for anyone with an interest in the past and disappearing traditions.
