The Dirt Inside

A slab of clay is wrought, eviscerated and shattered to render an account of date rape with staggering effectiveness

Few methods could be more fitting to explore such a dark subject. A flat slab of muddy clay is scratched and manipulated to set out the story of a date that ends in sexual assault. At first the medium seems delightfully playful, heart-filled eyes and looping hair. But as the events turn darker you realise that this is the rendering of the victim's memory - scratched with a sharp edge and gouged with forceful pressure. The final image is left to desiccate, the life before shattered into tiny pieces.

Animated film about date rape. The images are scratched into a flat clay surface.
