Yorkshire Film Archive

The Yorkshire Film Archive at York St John University save and celebrate screen heritage made in or about Yorkshire. They connect broad and diverse audiences to their cultural and socially significant collection that reflects the life, landscape, and identity of the people of the region since the 1890s. Together with their sister archive in the North East they form the Yorkshire and North East Film Archive, a unique pan-regional resource with over 75,000 moving image artefacts. They unlock the collections for artists, academics, curators, programmers, researchers, and producers to reveal compelling stories from the vaults. www.yfanefa.com

Sounds Good [04/04/1985]

Showcasing Yorkshire's musical talent.

The cream of Yorkshire Television region's host of young musical talent is presented in Sounds Good. The series offers all that is best in nearly every field of music and dance - from classical piano to the intricacies of Indian dance, from Country and Western to Rock, from classical ballet to break-dancing, and violins to frying-pan ensembles! The series is introduced by Calendar's Roger Greenwood, no mean clarinettist himself, and Countdown Star Carol Vorderman. This week includes: Amanda Neale (dancer), David Pickering (singer/dancer), The Cathedral Choir School (choir boys), Jayess Brass Band (school band), Bob Hartley (pianist), and David Horsfield (conductor).

Performing Arts: Dance

Next up in our Performing Arts series...

Continuing our exploration of the world of performing arts, this collection delves into the universal language of dance. Since the origins of dance are intrinsically linked to self expression, spiritual connection and social interaction, there is a long and fascinating history of movement beyond the stage. This collection invites us to reflect on the multifaceted nature of dance: that which is innate and exists on a fundamental level in each of us, that which is taught and studied as choreography or technique, and all manifestations in between. Each work in this collection is an energetic, vibrant display of dance in its many forms - from show rehearsals and live performances, to traditional festivals and flash mobs. Don't forget your dancing shoes as we journey through the wonders of movement!
