"A life of genteel poverty", tough times and cold winters for the couple who have chosen to live in the Shropshire church with no name.
Steve and Sue Millingham are deeply fascinated with the lifestyle of the English Civil War era. They have gone so far as to set up their own pewter manufacturing business and have even dabbled in the costumes of the period. Their love of all things mid-17th century led them to think that a castle would be a good place to live.
Unfortunately for them, castles don't come on the market very often and, even if they did, they would probably be outside their £5,000 budget. So, Plan B was to buy a small church in the tiny Shropshire village of Hopton Cangeford. The church is so small and neglected it doesn't even have a name, it's simply known as the Old Church. However, with a little work it should make a suitable living and working space for the Millinghams. That's as long as they don't mind the still consecrated graveyard outside, and the bitter cold of an English winter without modern luxuries like central heating...
In 2023 the Old Church at Hopton Cangeford was being used as self-catering holiday accommodation.
