The intelligent car is the subject of the 1987/88 Faraday Lecture Tour.
Mike Westbrook prepares to deliver the 1987/88 Faraday Lecture Tour for the Institute of Electrical Engineers - props for the lecture are seen in rehearsal at St John's Church, Waterloo, London. Mike is manager of Ford's Research and Engineering Centre at Dunton, Essex, and his subject will be the future of the electronic car.Eltec, the Ford 'intelligent car' is filmed in demonstration. Futuristic features of the car include computer control of main driving functions, a gear box without gears and wiring without wires. The car is designed to adapt to varied road and weather conditions and different grades of petrol (this is not the electrically-powered car of the future yet).
The reporter was Tony Adams for this video, made to be shown in a news story on Anglia Television early evening news / magazine programme About Anglia.
Video made to be inserted during live broadcast of Anglia Television's early evening news / magazine programme About Anglia. The live studio presentation provided context for the video as part of a news story or magazine feature within the programme. About Anglia was not recorded during broadcast, so it is usually just the pre-recorded programme inserts which survive. In the 1980s Anglia Television was broadcasting to a wide area in the East of England including Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk, Northamptonshire, Suffolk and adjoining parts of Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Rutland where there was some overlap with neighbouring ITV regions.
