Oldbury County High School Athletic Sports June 1938

Remembered by many but loved by few - that highlight of the school calendar - the sports day.

A typical school sports day held at the County High School at Oldbury in the West Midlands where the children make the most of the blustery conditions. Various running events dominate but also featured are those old favourites of non-Olympic sport: the slow bicycle and sack races. The film is also useful for anyone practicing their sack race technique as it confirms that the shuffle-running method is so much more efficient than the rabbit jump.
