KateModern Trailer
A snappy promotional trailer for the fictional videoblog series KateModern, following committed vlogger, Kate and her friends.
KateModern (2007-2008) was the UK spin-off of the American pioneering web series Lonelygirl15 (2006-2008), where the creative team first found their footing. Burdened with a dark secret, our lead, Kate, and her friends avidly vlogged their lives, uploading to the now-defunct interactive internet platform Bebo. The immersive point-of-view camerawork may have proved to be a new challenge for some of the actors (including familiar faces Jamie Bell and Ralf Little), but this approach gave online viewers a real sense of being part of the action.
Founded in 2005 as an online community, Bebo had a global membership of more than 40 million and was designed to ‘encourage unprecedented interactivity’ for audiences under 30. In a strikingly innovative way, Bebo’s social media networking tools enabled KateModern's viewers to interact with the cast and producers and inform the ongoing plot. Production values were consistently high with its unique funding model of product placement, with sponsors including Cadbury, Orange, Proctor & Gamble and Microsoft. The vlogs of one-to-four-minute shortform content were ideal for those with little to no phone data and the web series gained a jaw-dropping 35 million views by the season’s finale.
The first trailer for the fictional videoblog series 'KateModern' following a young avid blogger, Kate, and her friends.
