The message here is coal over nuclear, and pit communities before political ideology.
The participants in this film, made during the 1984 Miners' Strike, argue for long-term planning in the coal industry, asserting that it requires serious investment. They see coal as a reliable energy source for the future, including for oil production which (it is argued) would lessen the need for nuclear energy. The government's assertion that pits are uneconomic is seen as political, rather than based on financial or market-based evidence.
