A film of stark contrasts as the camera pans between deprived Cleveland back lanes and colourful community galas.
An amateur production of the Carling How Gala begins with children working to create costumes and decorative floats, while in another part of the building other children rehearse a dance or gymnastic display. This is followed by the parade through the village and various theatrical and acrobatic acts performing for the crowds during the day and into the evening.
