Captain Manby, Inventor of the Breeches Buoy

This mini documentary looks at the development of the lifesaving ‘rocket line’, invented by Captain George William Manby in the early 19th century. The film begins by highlighting the problem of ships grounding off the North Norfolk coast and the different forms of rescue. It then goes on to look at the life of Captain Manby, and how he came to invent his hugely commended sea rescue system.
