MAWAAN - Mango (Official Video)
Through playful performance, choreography and wordplay, Mawaan Rizwan’s music video uses the mango as a metaphor for pleasure and living life to its fullest.
In Mango, comedian, writer and performer Mawaan Rizwan uses a mango as a recurring motif in an increasingly surreal exploration of desire, identity and fantasy. Known for his distinctive, genre-defying work across television, stand-up and online video, Rizwan first built an audience through DIY YouTube sketches before creating the BAFTA-winning series Juice. Born in Lahore and raised in London, his work often blends absurd humour with moments of vulnerability and self-reflection.
Filmed across shifting settings, including London’s Southbank, Mango unfolds through a series of escalating scenarios and transformations in costume and tone. As Rizwan raps, “squeeze the juice out of this life before this life passes you by,” grounding the video’s humour in a message about the urgency of self-expression.
Following a Vogue photo shoot at the BFI National Archive with his brother Nabhaan, this music video, along with other early online work by Mawaan Rizwan, has been preserved in the collection, recognising its place alongside his film and television work within the UK’s moving image history.
A music video for Mawaan Rizwan (stylised MAWAAN)'s satirical song Mango that makes fun of "tough" masculinity.
