Farming through the Seasons - Dipping, Shoeing and Market

Kendal filmmaker Anne Beck shot this documentary reel of farming in the early 1960s, in the Kirkby Stephen area of Cumbria, a locality she knew well. It shows some of the sheer hard physical labour involved in farm work, for example when dipping sheep. Horses also feature prominently in this colour record, being shod at Wharton, rounded up in the wild, or sold at market.
