Picture-postcard pretty this landscape may be, but for those who make a living in it, including the celebrated farmer and conservationist Esmé Firbank (later Kirby), there’s not much time to admire the view. Many hands and sheepdogs are needed to gather the mountain sheep for dipping, and Esmé has donned dungarees and rolled up her sleeves for the job, grabbing a sheep for its unwelcome dunking.
