Village Ventures - Youth

Projects affecting young people are a success in Yetminster

Villagers in Yetminster are given a solar powered heated outdoor swimming pool through local fundraising and volunteer help. This is part of a film called Village Ventures showcasing volunteering and its importance to rural communities. Yetminster has also set up its Youth Club newsletter to keep the young of the village in an information network in the days before social media networks.

Village Ventures is sponsored by large companies and this pool in Yetminster has won an award. Yetminster sits on the River Wriggle, a tributary of the Yeo with houses of honey-coloured limestone characteristic of the Cotswolds. The chemist Robert Boyle (1627-1691) known for Boyle's Law describing how the pressure of gas increases as its volume decreases left an endowment creating Boyle's Old School for poor boys which operated from 1711 to 1945.
