The East Anglian Film Archive, the UK's first regional film archive, offers a unique record of the East of England's social and cultural history. As part of the University of East Anglia, we continue to lead moving image heritage research and inspire audience participation through community projects and events. Work On An Orchard

Summer scenes in glorious colour Kodachrome of Oliver's Farm in Colchester, where the sun beats down upon the working women who gather fruit.

As the sun shines down upon them, the women who work on Oliver's Farm in Colchester clean and pack the apples of the colourful orchard. Of course, not everyone is keen to be on camera, as one shy lady, giggling, hides as best she can! The orchard belongs to Denis Knowles, a keen home movie maker, who also enjoyed capturing his working family on film. By all accounts, it was a happy workforce and films of the harvest and other events were shown to entertain the staff at parties.
