Babycham: Tennis

Babycham: Tennis

After your strenuous workout at the tennis club, you need a Babycham

We'd all love to have a cute little deer magic up a refreshing beverage after a spot of tennis. When Babycham was introduced in 1953 it was targeted especially at women, and aspirational women at that. This part-animated ad from 1957 is no exception. Up to that point women ordering a drink might have settled for a sherry or port and lemon, but with the introduction of Babycham they could opt for a drink with a sense of sophistication, a 'genuine champagne perry'.

Television commercial for Babycham.

Animation. The Babycham fawn frolics in a garden. It jumps onto a table and bounces off some tennis rackets. It watches a game before being struck by the ball, following through a window. It makes two bottles and glasses appear on a table and then disappears. Live action. A couple come in from a tennis game, pour the bottles and drink. Female voiceover: 'Babycham. I'd love a Babycham. Everyone loves Babycham.' Male voice: 'Genuine champagne perry for only one and three.'
