Plymouth Police Film (Annual Appeal)

Appeal film for Plymouth Police Boot and Clothing Fund for Poor Children.
Based on a fictional story of police help to a family suffering from
unemployment.

Weary and weak after searching for employment, a man staggers around a corner
and collapses onto a bench where some women are talking. The women rally round
and fetch a policeman. The policeman leads the man away and accompanies him
home. The wife comes out and helps the husband in. The policeman sees the
poverty of the house and the childrens' ragged clothing. The policeman leaves
the house and reports the case to his chief constable in his office and gets
help for the family. The policeman knocks on the family's door after help has
been given. The household is more prosperous. The family greet him warmly and
give him tea. The children eat large slice of jam and bread. An appeal for
second-hand clothing. Shots of the women committee members making clothes for
the poor. The clothing stores at Stonehouse Police Station are shown by Mrs.

Sanders. Adults and children in groups are seen awaiting assistance, lining
the pavement. Pan along crowd ending on waifs.
