Dale: Ploughing Competitions Herefordshire 1956

Whether by horse or tractor the furrow must be straight as a die; competitive ploughing at Derndale and Llanwarne in Herefordshire.

A bright and colourful reel of home movie from Leominster film-maker Frank Dale. Mrs Dale tip-toes through the mud whilst the farmers get stuck in with the best they can muster in straight line ploughing. You could roll a billiard ball down some of the furrows on show at these ploughing events held at Derndale and two days later in October 1956 at Llanwarne. There's produce on show in the marquee too, highlighting how farming can be competitive at more than one level.
