Tossing the Pancake Topical Budget 494-1

A schoolboy scoffs his prize pancake after winning Westminster School's annual Shrove Tuesday competition, watched by staff, pupils and proud cook.

There's lovely footage of the school grounds in central London as a stern procession of masters meets JA Pickering, the winner of the 1921 pancake contest at Westminster School. Watched by staff, chef and peers, the chuffed looking schoolboy wolfs down the prize he claimed after the annual “Greaze”, held since 1753 and involving a one-minute fight in the school hall over a horsehair-reinforced pancake. Sadly, there's no record of the fight in question.
