An Indian Scrapbook
Film star Sabu fronts this novelty travelogue.
This cheery, not to say cheesy, novelty film is at heart a standard 'exotic' travelogue, given an entertaining surface twist: it's fronted by a celeb. Sabu, India's first international movie star, is supposedly talking to the off-screen narrator while taking a studio tea break between takes of his latest feature film. It's quite possible the location footage was all bought in, given a spurious unity by the device of Sabu's 'scrapbook'.
Pictures of India presented by Sabu by kind permission of London Films.
Street entertainment, elephant caravan, women collecting water in old reservoirs. Animal ceremony in Mysore - Maharajah on white horse with silver saddle. State Bullock Cart of solid silver, elephants carrying Palinquin [sic]. Round-up of wild elephants.
